Projects

Construction

  • The trade office is looking for opportunities in Alberta for the Dutch construction industry.

Education

  • Educational collaboration between various educational institutes in Alberta and the Netherlands.

Environment

  • On CCS there is collaboration between the Netherlands and Alberta/Saskatchewan. This is based on students' knowledge and experience. Main parties are CATO2, Alberta Innovates Technology Futures/Energy, the University of Alberta, and the University of Regina.
  • Through the ANTO, the Albertan Ministry of Environment gets insight in the development in a specific field of environmental policy. The uniqueness of the Dutch environmental policy is that it is pro-environment AND pro-business.

Food

  • A Dutch food company visited Alberta in September 2010. Various meetings were organized by the ANTO to gain insight into the challenges and the opportunities on the Alberta (West Canadian) market for their products.
  • The Leduc-Nisku Economic Development Area initiated a local Food Initiative. This can be an opportunity to get networks for Dutch expertise on value added, logistics and food processing.
  • The ANTO wants to get the Dutch meat distributors in contact with the Alberta meat industry, so they can play a major role in distributing it over the EU. The Netherlands would be an excellent port of entry.
  • The ANTO is bringing in Dutch expertise to help figure out in which way Alberta can be more self-supporting in the supply of food.

Fencing

  • The ANTO is assisting a Dutch company to find their position on the Alberta market.

Oil sands

  • The ANTO is working together with the oil sands industry for positioning Dutch knowledge and experience.

Water

  • The trade office is working on an awareness campaign at the water industry in the Netherlands. There are opportunities for Dutch "visible" water parties in Alberta. There is a lack of awareness about the water market in Alberta in the Netherlands. The ANTO was approached to provide support with the setup of an incoming mission on water technology companies in April 2011.
  • Together with the Alberta Water Research Institute, Dutch researchers will work on establishing a centre of excellence on water. Besides research institutes, there will also be involvement of industry on both sides.
